The National Museum of Ireland invites visitors to a practical talk and demonstration on native wildflowers, plants and trees at its Turlough Park site in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Led by Michael Chambers and Martin Connor from Wild Nephin National Park, the session will show how to support local biodiversity in a garden setting. Attendees will learn simple techniques for harvesting and propagating wildflower and tree seeds, with a focus on the yellow rattle plant and its role in creating thriving wildflower meadows. The presenters will also share how the park collects acorns and raises oak saplings for re‑planting in the surrounding landscape.
Designed for all ages, the half‑hour talk will be followed by a live demonstration of yellow rattle seed sowing and tips on managing unmown garden areas to encourage natural growth. Children can take part in worksheets and a nature‑craft activity, making it a family‑friendly learning experience.
