Join Sligo Bay Catchment Rivers Trust for another Himalayan Balsam Bash
Join Sligo Bay Catchment Rivers Trust for another Himalayan Balsam Bash as we continue tackling the spread of Himalayan balsam in the Sligo Bay catchment.
Himalayan balsam is an invasive plant that can quickly dominate riverbanks, outcompeting native vegetation and leaving bare ground when it dies back. Removing the plants before they set seed is an important part of reducing its spread.
📅 Date: Saturday 3rd October
📍 Location: Ardtrasna
Meeting points:
- 9:30am – ATU Sligo for anyone who would like to travel together
- 10:00am – Jordan’s Bar for those meeting us at the site
We’ll provide the equipment you’ll need, including gloves and tools, along with a short briefing before we begin.
What to bring
Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. The site may be wet and muddy, so wellies or sturdy waterproof boots and waterproof clothing are recommended.
Please also bring:
- Water and a packed lunch/snacks
- Suitable outdoor clothing
- Gloves if you have your own, although we will have gloves available
- A change of clothes if required
No previous experience is necessary. We’ll show you what to look for and how to remove the balsam safely.
Whether you’ve been volunteering with us all year or this is your first Himalayan Balsam Bash, we’d be delighted to have you along.
Come and spend a few hours outdoors, meet fellow volunteers and help protect our rivers and their surrounding habitats. 🌿
Every plant removed makes a difference.
