Martin A. Timoney, a research archaeologist with a career spanning six decades, will give a lecture on the archaeological discoveries made in Connacht and Clare between 1966 and 2026. Drawing on his extensive fieldwork and publications, he will discuss a range of sites and artefacts – from megalithic tombs and Later Bronze Age pins to early medieval sculpture and high‑medieval church features. The talk will also touch on more recent findings such as pit‑fields, a medieval boundary in County Roscommon and the wider connections these sites have with Ireland’s archaeological narrative.
Timoney’s background combines mathematics teaching with professional archaeology, and he has been a long‑standing member of the Sligo Field Club. His experience promises a detailed yet accessible overview of how these discoveries have shaped our understanding of Irish history.
