The National Museum of Ireland offers a guided walk through Collins Barracks that looks beyond the walls of military power to the everyday realities of life, illness and death within the historic complex. Over two hours you’ll hear accounts of soldiers’ routines from the 1700s to the late 1900s, discover how disease and injury were managed, and see objects that illustrate the barracks’ long occupation before it became part of the museum.
Designed for families with older children and adults who are interested in social and medical history, the tour blends indoor displays with outdoor sections of the site, giving a clear picture of how the barracks evolved from Europe’s longest‑continuously used military base to a cultural venue.
